Introduction to Wiki

Step by Step

Siri Anderson

Director of Online Learning

Step One: Familiarize Yourself with Wikis.

Step Two: Create an account with a good wiki host provider.

Step Three: Create content in your wiki.

Step Four: Use the "Insert Plugin" function to increase the dynamism and interactivity of your wiki.

Step Five: Tap into the power of the cloud and share your wiki.

This wiki is designed both to model some FREE online strategies for teaching new content and skills to learners --- and to subsequently walk new users through the steps of wiki-building--with the specific needs of students and teachers in mind.

Note that this particular wiki, unusually, does not allow you to "join, edit, or comment." Generally we design wiki's purposely in order to facilitate all three of these interactive features. But in this case, I suggest you "Make the Road by Walking" as the saying goes, and create your own wiki to experiment with the interactive opportunities afforded by wiki technology.

Also, please note this tool is still in process. It has been developed with content created over time. You may notice that some of the "how to" videos model a slightly different looking editing framework than the one now available. Such is the nature of riding the wave. It will keep changing and we just try and evolve with it.

You can email me if you discover an area in this wiki that isn't working appropriately or to offer a suggestion on how it might be improved.

Happy wiki'ing!
